I’ve always been a big believer that you can reinvent yourself.
“Fitness found me at one of the lowest points in my life,” remembers Keoni Hudoba, chief instructor at Barry’s Bootcamp, on a humid New York afternoon. “It took years, but fitness decided for me. I found this passion and it was amazing to me that I could help other people while helping myself.”
A Tale of Two Keonis
Keoni is a man of two worlds; one is the high-energy, fast-tempo’d version that you’ll see inside the thumping, dazzlingly lit studios where he reigns over his students. The other Keoni, the one that appears when class ends, is very different.
“For me, when I go into work, my students’ energy is magnetic – we feed off of each other and keep up the [constant] energy. When I leave, I need a place to shut down and, literally, recharge. I want to be able to turn off.”
Home, Sweet Home
Home can mean a lot of things to people from different walks of life, but the importance of having a quiet place to call your own would find its place on the list of many. “[When I was in Miami] that pool – everything was silent in there – everything just stopped. I loved how small I felt there, there was just so much space to center my mind and let my body roam.”
For Keoni, whether he’s on or off, fitness is in his DNA – something engrained into his past, present, and even his future. “I’d love to venture into athleisure – I think there’s something missing there. Fitness is inspiring and life-changing, I think I’ll always be involved with it.”
